SPL MOTTRAM MOOR TRAFFIC 06.jpg
Traffic chaos continues on the major A57 road linking Sheffield and Manchester at the village of Mottram in Longdendale, near Hattersley in Greater Manchester on Tuesday 10 May 2022. Long term gas works on the stretch, as well as the death of a motorcyclist over the weekend has seen the already congested route suffer major congestion.
The road is single-carriageway through Mottram, Hollingworth and Tintwistle and through the Peak District National Park, it is used by large numbers of heavy goods vehicles. It is one of the most congested A-road routes in the country, with high volumes of traffic (including HGVs) using a road which is totally unsuitable for the volume and nature of traffic it carries.
