The UK government has announced a £137 million investment in upgrading the line between Manchester and Sheffield. Andrew Stephenson MP, Minister of State for Transport announced that the government was "commited to levelling up rail infrastructure across the north. This scheme will transform journeys between the Northern Powerhouse cities... by removing bottlenecks on the Hope Valley line".
