A couple have claimed they received "very threatening" messages after filing a noise complaint against the Night and Day Cafe live music venue, a court has heard. Rex Chesney told Manchester magistrates he and his partner were forced to move out of their flat on Dale Street in the Northern Quarter after online threats about their complaint against the venue. The owners of the venue are appealing against a council noise abatement notice. A council official told the court they had "witnessed a nuisance" at the bar. The Night & Day Cafe has been part of Manchester's music scene for 30 years and has hosted a large number of acts on their rise to fame such as Elbow, Arctic Monkeys, Wet Leg and Manic Street Preachers.

In the Middle Ages rushes were gathered for strewing on the church floor and a boundary-walking procession was common. At Saddleworth, the local Morris teams revived the local tradition of gathering the rushes in a two-wheeled decorated cart and bringing them back to St Chad’s Church at Uppermill. A single 'jockey' sits atop the cart which is about 13 feet tall. The cart tours the local villages and on Sunday goes to St. Chads's Church accompanied by around a hundred Morris men from all over the country.

The practice of decoration of wells was developed during the Victorian era and generally only found in or around Derbyshire.

The painting has been created by street artist Akse in memory of the Joy Division frontman, who died in 1980. The artwork is based on a photograph by Kevin Cummins and was commissioned by Cheshire East Council who said 'it has pride of place in the town'. Curtis was brought up in the town and is buried in Macclesfield Cemetery, was the lead singer of Joy Division until his death at the age of 23 in May 1980. The three surviving members of the band resolved to carry on and renamed themselves as New Order.
